Ronnie Alfred Hodges, SGM United States Army Ret., 71, of Christiansburg, and formerly of Woodbridge, VA, passed away on Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in North Carolina.
He was born October 22, 1942 in Mississippi to the late Euna Hazel Fuller and Reuben Elbon Hodges. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Elaine Hodges Dunn, Roland Hodges, Jerry Hodges, and Wallace Hodges; and siblings by marriage Ruby Hodges, John Tigmo, John Costa, and Richard Craig.
He was blessed to be part of a large, loving family, whom he cherished dearly. They supported him throughout his 27 years in the United States Army as he defended our country and served both in the United States and overseas, including the war in Vietnam. It was in Korea where he met and married his beautiful bride, Jong (Meida) Park Hodges, who survives him. He is also survived by his two loving sons, Reginald Hodges, and his wife Katherine Gillis both of Durham, NC, and Robert Hodges and his wife Dana Hodges; and the loves of his life, his four granddaughters, Sarah Hodges, Kelly Hodges, Amy Hodges, and Rachel Hodges, all of Christiansburg. He is survived by his sisters Frances Hodges Tigmo Costa of Chesapeake, VA and Elaine Hodges Craig of Kernersville, NC; and also siblings by marriage Louis Dunn of Virginia Beach, VA, Jayne Hodges and Janet Hodges, both of California, and Rev. and Mrs. Lee Park of Seoul, South Korea. Additionally, he is survived by multiple nieces and nephews, whom he loved like his own children, and neighbors and friends that are spread around the world, as he made friends everywhere he went. We will all miss him so much and will treasure and honor his memory forever.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The graveside service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin.
