Roy Vernon Compton of Christiansburg, VA, born March 9, 1928, died on May 22, 2013 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
He was born in Floyd County, VA to the late Buford Eldridge (Eck) and Elsie Salmons Compton. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Arlen and Harold Compton. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mae C. Compton; a daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Dusty Cromer of Christiansburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Jeanie Compton of Blacksburg, and Richard and Susan Compton of Christiansburg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tim and Ginger Cromer of Christiansburg, Tony Cromer and fiancée Amy Poff of Knoxville, TN, Kenny Compton of Christiansburg, Jessica Compton of Christiansburg, Jasmine Compton and Jason Compton of Blacksburg, Jeremy and Sara Compton of Christiansburg, and Trevor Compton of Christiansburg. In addition, he is survived by his great-grandchildren, Danielle Broce of Christiansburg, Cassidy and Kaylyn Cromer of Christiansburg, Callie Cromer of Christiansburg, K.J. Compton of Christiansburg, Caleb Cromer of Christiansburg, and Josie Cromer of Morristown, TN.
Roy retired from Volvo Trucks in 1990. He enjoyed woodworking and often displayed his skills at local craft shows. He and Mae enjoyed traveling, especially to Gatlinburg, TN. He was also a devoted fan of Christiansburg High School football, enjoying their games for many years through the 2012 season. His family will always cherish his memory.
There will be a visitation Friday, May 24 from 1:00 – 2:30 followed by a graveside service at Sunset Cemetery at 3 p.m. Pastor Beaver Terry will officiate.
