Duncan, Russell Paul, 81, of Christiansburg, VA, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 after a sudden illness. He was born January 10, 1929 in Floyd County to the late, Gilbert W. and Elva H. Duncan. Russell was a beloved husband, father, and brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Sarah T. Duncan; children, Larry Duncan and wife, Diane, Linda Whitworth and husband, Russell, David Duncan, Wayne Duncan and wife, Beth and Diane Kelly; sister and brother-in-law, Reva and Bob Semones; grandchildren, Scot and Toby Duncan, Tara McAllister, Elizabeth McCann, Chris Duncan; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Caleb, Scarlett Duncan, Sarah Wilson, Parker McAllister, Currin McCann, Jordan, Kayla and Brandon Duncan; sisters-in-law, Julia Bratton and husband, Robert, Sally Boles and husband, Rudy, Mary Peterman and husband, Bill, Mary Francis Teany and Margie Teany; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Russell was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy.
He owned and operated Duncan’s Texaco for 36 years in Christiansburg, he served on the County Board of Supervisors for 4 years, he was a Mason, and a member of the Lions Club and Jaycee’s. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Christiansburg Life Saving Crew. He was a member of Old Brick Presbyterian Church in Radford, VA.
The family will receive friends from 5-8p.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kathy Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery.
