Akers, Ruth Roop, 80, of Blacksburg, died August 4, 2007. She was born November 5, 1926 in Floyd County, Virginia. She resided in Christiansburg most of her life while working for and retiring from Imperial Reading in Christiansburg. The last ten years of her life were spent in assisted living and nursing facilities in Blacksburg and Wytheville.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene “Gene” Akers; her parents, Edgar Vanson and Elizabeth Epperly Roop; and her brother, Dalton Roop.
Survivors include one sister, Annie Mae Gardner, of Radford, and one brother, Edgar Vanson “E.V.” Roop, Jr., of Floyd. Also to cherish her memory are three nieces, Betty Lou Million, of Hebron, Kentucky, Mary Elizabeth Roop, of Floyd, and Peggy Lancaster, of Christiansburg; three nephews, Vernon Roop, of Bristol, Tennessee, Ray Gardner, of Riner, and Doug Gardner, of Radford; and several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Service. A graveside service will follow in Sunset Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Larry Phillips officiating.
