DUNCAN, RUTH CHUMBLEY, age 64 of Christiansburg went home to be with her Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was a loving wife and mother and a successful business woman in Christiansburg. Among Ruth?s many accomplishments are President of the ABWA?New River Chapter and named Woman of the Year for that organization in 1980; Diploma of Merit?General from the Institute of Financial Education in 1984; and Associate Member Award for the New River Valley Home Builders Association in 1988; she continued her work in sales and service as a valuable member of the Shelor Motor Mile until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Merle & Virginia Simmons Chumbley, brothers, Thomas M. Chumbley and Daniel L. Chumbley.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, W. Conrad & Sharla Hughes; brothers and sisters-in-law, John P. & Dixie Chumbley, Joseph D. & Brenda Chumbley; sister and brother-in-law, Frances C. & Billy Hughes; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and an abundance of close friends; she is also survived by special friend, Donald C. Duncan; special niece and her husband, Toxie H. & Mike McNeill, and special cousin, Anita Jennings.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Larry Shelor and David Hagan and the rest of the Shelor Motor Mile Family for all they have done for Ruth and her family.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 7 at the Crockett Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Yopp officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. Ruth will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.
