Ryan Frank Hubbard, 31, of Christiansburg, VA died Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Sovah Health, Martinsville. He was born on November 4, 1985 in Martinsville, VA to Jerry D. Hubbard and Caren Garrett Hubbard of Collinsville, VA.
In his youth Ryan was very active in the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Fieldale-Collinsville High School in 2004 and earned higher degrees from Virginia Tech and the Jefferson College of Health Services.
Ryan worked as an EMT/Paramedic at Carilion Clinic Patient Transport in Radford and volunteered at the Christiansburg Rescue Squad. He also worked as a dance instructor at Sapphire Ballroom and Dance Center in Christiansburg.
He had numerous interests and hobbies, all of which he pursued with intense dedication and zeal. Notably he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol as well as a proud and enthusiastic member of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars themed costuming group dedicated to charity work and spreading joy.
Even though he is gone much too soon, Ryan has touched so many people throughout his life with his kindness and humor. His compassion for others as well as his dogged determination have been, and will continue to be, an inspiration for many, and he will live in our hearts and memories forever.
In addition to his parents, Ryan is survived by his brother Eric (Andrea) Widner of Madison, WI; and niece Aria Widner of Madison, WI; a cousin, who was like a brother, Sean (Adrienne) Hubbard and their two sons of Collinsville; and many other loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Michael Harrison officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Norris Funeral Services and other times at the home of his mother and father, 254 Forest Hill Dr., Collinsville, VA. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
A celebration of life will be held at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Neal Turner officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Christiansburg Rescue Squad, or any other preferred rescue squad.
