Sally Ellen Nixon Neel

Sally Ellen Nixon Neel, 90, of Riner, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Born on June 5, 1927 in Christiansburg to the late Charles and Agnes Nixon, she is survived by her husband of 66 years, Roger Rowland Neel; daughter, Patricia Neel Wilson, her husband Gregory and her step-daughter Chandler Wilson of Columbus, OH; son, Roger Rowland Neel Jr. and children, Roger Rowland Neel III and Campbell Jo Lynn Neel of Roanoke, VA. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Russell Nixon; sister, Ruth Nixon Burger and her husband, Dr. Ray Edward Burger of Welch, WV.

Mrs. Neel received her education from Radford College, St. Luke’s Hospital in Richmond, and Virginia Tech. She retired from the Radford City Schools as Director of the Radford City School of Practical Nursing and was a life long member of Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. Sally will be remembered by family, many friends and acquaintances from all chapters of her life.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to her caretakers, Carilion Hospice, Gentiva Healthcare, Intrepid Hospice, and neighbor, Cindy Price.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A private Graveside Service will follow the visitation at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund or the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church.
