Shannon Lea Montgomery

Shannon Lea Montgomery passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Carilion NRV Medical Center at the age of 49. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Blaine & Thelma Worrell, and Cecil Montgomery; uncle, Roger Worrell; and aunt, Shirley Worrell.
Shannon is survived by her mother, Jackie Montgomery; sister & brother-in-law, Shellie & Dennis Roop; step-sister, Lisa Spence; nephews, Shane and Kayson; nieces, Jacey, Kayla, and Becca. She is also survived by aunts and uncle, Brenda & Blaine Poff, Linda Nester; cousins, Brett Bolen, Shad Bolen, Renée Nester; fiancé, Steve Hungate; her longtime friend, Jeannie; as well as her special love, Jenna the cat.
Shannon was a person who never met a stranger and had many, many friends. She left us far too soon and will be missed by many. Since the age of 5, her medical issues have been many and she has always dealt with them and always, always come back, but on the 26th her body just could not fight anymore. Now she has no pain, all the scars are gone, and she is singing. Anyone who knew her knows she loved to sing.
The visitation with memorial service scheduled for September 26, 2021 has been postponed. Please check with the Funeral Home to see if a new date has been set.
When scheduled, the family has requested for everyone that would like to wear pink in honor of Shannon, because pink was her favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, her family wishes donations be made to the Montgomery County Animal Care & Adoption Center at www.montgomerycountyva.gov/departments/acac in memory of Shannon.
