Sharron Diane Edwards Reed, escorted by angels, entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Monday, August 17th, 2015. Sharron was born on February 18th, 1952 in Christiansburg, Virginia, to Della Irene Edwards and Wilbur “Woody” O. Edwards as the youngest of nine siblings. She graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1970, and graduated from Roanoke Memorial’s LPN School of Nursing in 1971. Sharron worked in the hospital setting as a labor and delivery nurse, a pediatric nurse for Dr. S.K. Cassel’s office, and she rounded out her career at Virginia Tech Student Health Services where she retired.
While she retired many years ago, her passion for nursing and helping others continued until her cancer diagnosis. As a devout Christian, she dedicated her life to helping others in need in any way. She provided personal care for free, she provided rides to cancer treatment, she provided financial assistance, but most of all she witnessed about Christ tirelessly to those who did not know Him or salvation through the blood He shed for our sins on the cross.
Sharron is preceded in death by her father and mother; and her sisters Gladys Lyons and Marilyn Cozene Martin. Survivors include her loving and faithful husband of 43 years, Rick Reed; her son, Nick and wife Carrie Reed of Christiansburg; her daughter, Candi Reed Carroll and husband Tim of Georgia; and six siblings; Hensel and Pauline McNew of Dublin, Dorothy Weller of Pulaski, Betty and Frank Farmer, Sr. of Dublin, David McNew of Dublin, Sandra and Terry Armbrister of Ohio, and Denny and Charlene Edwards of Tennessee. Sharron is also survived by two precious grandchildren, Morgan and Mariah Reed.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Auburn Baptist Church, Riner, with Rev. Stanley “Shake” Smith officiating. A private interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.
