Sheri Peterson Schetselaar, formerly of Christiansburg, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma after a short illness. She was 86 years old.
Sheri was born on August 21st, 1930, in Richfield, Utah and was a devoted, lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent her entire life in the service of our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Over the years she held numerous leadership positions within her church including callings in both Stake and Ward Relief Societies (LDS Church women’s organization) and in Primary (LDS Church children’s organization). In recent years, following the death of her beloved husband Gordon, she served two church missions, first to the Family History Library on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, and then to the Family Search Support Department on Temple Square. She loved helping others with their family history efforts. After lovingly and patiently raising her four children, Sheri went back to work spending most of her career in Virginia working for both the Dairy Science and the Aerospace and Ocean Engineering Departments at Virginia Tech.
Although she will be greatly missed, her family is comforted with the knowledge that a great reunion is taking place with those family and friends who preceded her in death, especially her husband, Gordon; and her parents, Dot Leila Christensen and Joseph Orean Peterson; and her baby brother, Max Orean Peterson. Sheri is survived by many who adored her including a sister, Jane Marie and brother-in-law Jack Winkel; her children, Gordon Stefan and Kelly Schetselaar of Gainesville, Virginia, Julie and Paul Eddington of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Marc Alan and Lori Falls Schetselaar of Christiansburg, and Eric J and Janet Schetselaar of American Fork, Utah. She will also be missed by fifteen grandchildren, Justin Pike, Jacob and Hannah Schetselaar, Brooke Evans (Jon), Michael Eddington (Brooke), Alison Johnson (Joel), Kelli Eddington and Rachel Sande (Eric), Daniel (Madison), Joseph, and Brock Schetselaar, and Elizajane, Noah, Annalise and Zachary Schetselaar. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Alex Evans, and Darius and DeAnndra Johnson; and by many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. We are grateful to the Lord for the knowledge that we will only be separated for a short time, after which, we too will have joy in our reunion!
Visitation will be on Monday, June 26, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel at 510 Porter Street in Blacksburg, followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg.
