Sherman Edward Akers, 80, of Blacksburg, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011. He was born on July 17, 1930 in Ironto Va, son of the late George Akers and Liza Jane Bowles Akers.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Akers, Earl Akers, Herbert Akers, his twin, Herman Akers; sisters Violet Browning, Gladys Kanode, Hazel Wheeling, Elsie Ratcliff, Bernice Garlick and two infant siblings. He is survived by sister-in-law, Christine Akers, numerous nieces and nephews; family members, friends and special nephews Wayne Ratcliff and wife Darlene Ratcliff; and Herman Akers Jr. A special thanks to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice and Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
The family will receive friends on Sunday June 26, 2011 from 10a.m until noon at Horne's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at 1p.m. Sunday, June 26 at the Dudley Cemetery, Rev. Dusty Etter officiating.
