Sherwood Roudabush

October 23, 1917 — July 31, 2014

Sherwood Ashby Roudabush, 96, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Lewis Gale Hospital – Montgomery in Blacksburg, Virginia. He was born October 23, 1917, to the late Thomas Ashby Roudabush and Vivian Riner Roudabush Burnett in Christiansburg, Virginia. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Florine Metzger.

Sherwood is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma Jones Roudabush of Christiansburg; and his daughter, Ann Roudabush Keys of Blacksburg.

Sherwood was raised in Cambria, now known as North Christiansburg. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education after serving in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He taught vocational agriculture in the Virginia Public School System for 32 years, in Fairfield, Willis, and Auburn High Schools. After retiring he spent many happy hours on the golf course and tinkering around with his many inventions. He was a fan of all sports, particularly Virginia Tech football, especially dear to him since he played college ball for the “Gobblers” in the late thirties.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg conducted by Rev. Charles DeHart. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Horne Funeral Home.
