Shirley Lester Bishop, of Riner, passed away peacefully at her home on December 24, 2023 with loved ones by her side. She born on April 26, 1935 and lived a life filled with love, devotion, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Shirley was the loving daughter of Cletus E. and Cora T. Lester both of whom preceded her in death.
At the age of 16, she married the love of her life, Harold D. Bishop. Together they built a beautiful family which remains a true testament of their love and dedication. Shirley lost her beloved Harold unexpectedly on December 30, 1985. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amy Bishop; her son Harold Wayne Bishop and his wife Donna Bishop.
Shirley loved her church family and appreciated all of the visits, calls and prayers she received from her friends at Fellowship Baptist Church where she was a devoted member.
Shirley and Harold’s love continues through their family. Left to cherish her memory are her son David D. Bishop (Sharon) of Christiansburg; her daughter Jeanie Compton (Kenny) of Dublin; her son Stephen Bishop (Tammie) of Riner; her special niece and care giver Rose Lester Turner; grandchildren Tonya Phillips and Melanie Bishop; Tim and Ashley Bishop; Jasmine Fraizer and Jason Compton; great grandchildren Allison and Riley; Ellie and Emmie; Aliza and Samuel.
She was blessed to have Iva Bukkila as a best friend and neighbor who without hesitation became a caregiver and motivator for Shirley. The family also wishes to thank all her caregivers and providers for their loving care and dedication to Shirley.
The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 28th. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor James Bradley and Russell Gordon on Friday, December 29th at 11am at Horne Funeral Home with a graveside service following at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg.
