Moran, Shirley Raye, 71, of Blacksburg, VA, departed this life on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Veterans Hospital in Salem, VA. He was born January 6, 1939 in Floyd, VA.
He had been a resident at the Virginia Veterans Care Center since August, 2005. He had attended Crossroads Holiness Church. He was a long distance driver for much of his life; he also worked for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company for 18 years. He was in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Linkous Moran; and his parents, Melvin and Essie Moran.
He is survived by four sisters, Vera and Donald Shively, of Rocky Mount, VA, Mary and Bernice Underwood, of Floyd, VA, Bonnie Skelton, of Blacksburg, VA; and her fiancé, Toney Quesenberry, of Murfreesboro, TN, and Betty Moran, of Floyd, VA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marlin and Pat Linkous, Bernard and Jean Linkous and Shirley Brunty. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, cousins and aunts.
Friends may call anytime after 9a.m., Sunday, where the family will receive friends from 1p.m.-3p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 3p.m. on Sunday January 2, 2011 following the visitation in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Early, Rev. Randy Woolwine and Rev. Jube Burk officiating. Interment will be in the Linkous Family Cemetery in Blacksburg, VA.
