Shirley M. (Buck) Phillips, 81, of Christiansburg, died peacefully with his family around him on July 4, 2012.
He was born on February 5, 1931, near Alderson, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph M. and Helen Phillips of near Alderson, WV; as well as his sister, Opal Phillips Welder.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Weeks Phillips; his daughter, Linda Carolyn Ghearing & husband, Rodney E. Ghearing of Atwater, CA; his son, Charles Andrew Phillips & wife, Connie Brown Phillips of Hagerstown, IN; 4 grandchildren, Danielle Phillips Dalton of Fishers, IN, Jason Andrew Phillips & wife, Lisa Phillips of Clover, SC, Nicholas Alexander Ghearing & wife, Allison Ghearing of Grand Junction, CO, Victoria Elizabeth Crumb of Brooktondale, NY; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Sterling R. Phillips & wife, Norma of Saltville, VA, Riley M. Phillips & wife, Lora of Christiansburg, VA, and David B. Phillips & wife, Janet of Punxatawney, PA; as well as nieces and nephews.
Mr. Phillips was a 39 year retired employee of the CSX Railway System. At his retirement in 1990, he and his wife relocated to Christiansburg, VA, where they resided at 304 Third Street.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 6, 2012, from 6-8 pm at The Church of the Brethren, South Franklin Street, Christiansburg. Mr. Phillips will be then transported to Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, WV, for visitation there by friends on Saturday, July 7, 2012, from 2-4 pm with the funeral service immediately following in the Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Donald Peters will officiate at the service in WV. Interment will follow the funeral service in Alderson Cemetery.
