Sidney Edward Hodge, 79, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at his residence in Christiansburg.
Sidney served in the Army from 1953-1955 and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He retired from N & W Railroad after 33 years.
The son of the late Joseph Hundley and Zella Weeks Hodge, Sidney was the 8th of 12 children.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Shirley Jean Flinchum Hodge. Other survivors include his brother & his wife, Carl & Kathy Hodge of Christiansburg; his sisters and brother-in-law, Allie Miles and Joyce & William (Bill) Czerniakiewicz of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Ruby Hodge of Roanoke, Polly Hodge of Blacksburg, Donna Flinchum, Margaret Flinchum and Betty Flinchum; brother-in-law Eugene (Pete) & Nancy Flinchum; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Roy, Coy, John, Wilmer (Bill), Newell and Paul Hodge, Alma Epperly and Virginia Hodge.
Sidney was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the family would like to thank their church friends for all their acts of kindness over the years and to Dr. Scott Jamison for his continuous service.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, from 5-8 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 14th at 12 pm in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Copeland and Rev. Richard Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
