Sylvia Akers Jones

Sylvia Akers Jones passed away on October 7, 2023, at the age of 92.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roley and Eugenia Akers; her beloved husband of 38 years, Wallace Jones; a brother, Clarence Akers; two sisters, Ruby Howell and Goldie Weeks; and a son, Kimball Jones.
She is survived by her oldest son, Gary W. Jones and daughter-in-law Kristi Jones; daughter-in-law, Teresa Jones; three grandchildren, Nathan Jones, Natalie Grimmett, and Rene Jones; as well as four beautiful great-grandchildren.
Sylvia worked as a sales clerk at the original Leggett department store in Christiansburg, VA for many years and was known by many in the community. As a new retiree she decided to go back to work and became an integral part of the dining staff at Warm Health Retirement Community, where she was adored by staff and residents alike.
Sylvia lived a long, full life surrounded by family and friends who loved her immensely. She was kind to absolutely everyone in her life. She was active in her church and Sunday School until very late in life when driving became more difficult for her. Sylvia loved the Lord and shared that love with others. She was simply a beautiful human being inside and out and will be greatly missed. May the Lord watch over her in heaven until we all see her again.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at noon in the Chapel, with interment following in Sunset Cemetery.
