Sylvia Jean Steele Reed

Sylvia Jean Steele Reed, 85, of Elliston, Virginia, departed this life for her home in Heaven on the evening of Friday, February 17, 2023, surrounded by her family. For the last three months, she had lived in the pleasant environs of the Cozy Home Haven in the Fairlawn community in Radford, Virginia, due to declining health.
Sylvia was born on May 19, 1937, to Carson and Eunice Steele of North Fork, West Virginia. At the age of 18, she married Jack Eugene Reed, and they lived in several states due to Jack's job with The Kroger Company, before making their home in Elliston, Virginia. Their marriage lasted some fifty years until Jack's death in 2007.
Sylvia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack Eugene Reed, Jr. and his wife, Gina; grandson, Jack Eugene Reed, III (Jay); brother-in-law, Timmy Reed of Bluewell, West Virginia; an aunt, Patsy Alley, and her husband, Don, of Pompano Beach, Florida; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Cos Moribito, of Elwood City, Pennsylvania; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sylvia attended Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Christiansburg, Virginia, and enjoyed active participation in the church's Senior Saints ministry. One of her favorite activities was the twice-a-month luncheon meetings, and she eagerly looked forward to helping gather and deliver Christmas boxes to the seniors at area nursing homes.
The family would like to acknowledge the care and kindness of Valerie Adams and her staff at the Cozy Home Haven during Sylvia's stay there.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, West Virginia. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Sylvia and a fellowship meal to follow, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, on Saturday, March 4th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sylvia's memory to the Senior Saints Ministry at Good Shepherd.
