Theodore "Ted" Carl Shelton III

Theodore Carl Shelton, III ‘Ted’, 72 of Elliston slipped around the corner to the next room of existence on Thursday, March 6, 2025, after very long illness. He was born on June 8, 1952 in Radford to the late Gordon May Eagle Shelton Norse and Professor Carl Shelton, P.E., of the Mining Engineering Department. Ted attended Blacksburg High, class of 1970 and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He held federal positions with NOAA in Sterling, VA, and the Arsenal in Radford, VA. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a mentor with AA in the Blacksburg Methodist Church in Blacksburg for 50 years. For 25 years, he was a member of the New River Valley Kennel Club, serving on the board and attending confirmation shows with his beloved ChowChows.

Besides his parents, Ted is preceded in death by his brother, Tom Shelton; uncles and aunts, Hun Shelton and his wife, Columbus Eagle, Buena Jones, Jean Stiltner, Thomas Shelton, Richard Shelton, Mary West, and Jay Lowe; cousins, Nancy Stiltner, Kenneth Shelton, Tom Shelton, Larry Stiltner, and Ted Stiltner; friends, Bruce Prillaman from Roanoke, John Aracco and Dr Carter Elliot from Blacksburg, Paul & Cathy Propst from Ironto and other friends; and dearest dogs, Bas Noir, Benny, Ms. Walker, and many others.

Surviving are his wife, Eva V. Shelton; children, Conni and Ludwig Gantner; niece & nephew, Dewayne Shelton and Tracy Sibold; cousins, Deborah Lowe Tanner, Billie Sue Lowe, Mike Hubbard, Pam West, Jack Stewart, Sandra West, Bruce McClung, Linda West, Greg Swiger, Jody & Angel Shelton, Keith Shelton, Pat Stiltner; friends, Chris Saul, Leonard Fox, Pete Gaines, Tom Perry, Juhani Nyman, Dean O'Donnel, Hite Baker and many others; and his last dogs, Sharky and others.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 14 at 3 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, 1436 Jennell Rd., Blacksburg, VA. All are welcome.
