Thomas Evans

EVANS, THOMAS SIDNEY ?SID?, age 85, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2005.

Sid was retired from the U. S. Navy after more than 20 years in service to his country. A veteran of World War II, he was proud to have been aboard ship during the Yalta Conference, as well as at duty stations in France, Italy, Panama, Africa, Norfolk and the Supreme Allied Command, Atlantic. Sid continued to serve his country as a civil servant for the Veterans Administration following his Navy retirement. Sid was active in the community, he was past president of the Salem Lion?s Club, a former officer in the Fleet Reserve and a previous Board Member of both Alta-Mons and Crockett Springs United Methodist Church.

Sid was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, as well as others who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by: his wife of 50 years, Eva Frances Craighead Evans; brothers Robert Evans, Roy Evans, and John Evans; sisters Christine Norcross and Doris Idol.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Steven M. & Debbie S. Evans of Clifton Forge, VA; daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia E. & Ernest D. Fullerton of Cornelius, NC; Deborah E. Galloway of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Crystal Cobb, Amanda Jo Gabric, Sarah Evans, Thomas Cobb, Jeremy Evans; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence A. & Shirley B. Evans; Frank W. & Nancy B. Evans; sisters, Mildred ?Wickey? Evans, Isabelle E. Manos and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the Crockett Springs United Methodist Church in Shawsville with Rev. Emory Tarpley and Rev. Terry Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Crockett Springs United Methodist Church, 2780 Crockett Springs Road, Shawsville, VA 24162. The Evans Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg (382-2612).
