Thomas Johnson

March 6, 1929 — June 5, 2006

JOHNSON, THOMAS W. ?TOM?, 77, of Christiansburg, died at his home.

He was the son of the late Tom and Lake Johnson and was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Kitty.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Jay & Amy Johnson of Blacksburg; Tim & Loleta Johnson of Roanoke; Dave & Alison Johnson of Yorktown; he was ?Pepop? to grandchildren Erin and Katie Johnson of Blacksburg; Matt, Chaz, Preston and Josie Johnson and Kristen Zimmerman of Roanoke, Tommy and Sammy Johnson of Yorktown. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jo Shufflebarger of Carlisle, PA.

Tom was a man of strong faith, simple courage and displayed a gentle sense of humor. An intelligent and well-read man, he instilled in those who knew him well an appreciation for the written word, the strength of one?s convictions, and the simple dignity and pleasures in everyday life. Many will remember him as the public address announcer at Christiansburg High School football games for about 25 years. Tom was a valued member of the Christiansburg Kiwanis Club for 40 years or more and served in a variety of official capacities. One of his treasured honors was being named Kiwanian of the year. He was devoted to his family, his God and his country. With Tom, what you saw was what you got.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift in Tom?s honor to the Christiansburg Kiwanis Club, P. O. Box 313, Christiansburg, VA 24068. While we will all miss Tom, we take great comfort in knowing he is finally having that long-awaited dance with Kitty.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 9th at the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. Don Makin. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. The Johnson Family is being served by Horne Funeral & Cremation Service, Christiansburg, (382-2612).
