Truman Daniel, Jr.

Daniel, Jr., Truman Knox, 85, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. He was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 26, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Rosemaye Daniel; brothers, James K. Daniel and Reginald C. Daniel; son, Gary K. Daniel.

He was a Marine Veteran of WWII, a graduate of University of Alabama, he was also inducted into the Alabama Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1995, he was retired from Hercules, Inc., he served on Christiansburg Town Council for 16 years, an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, past President and Lt. Governor of Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg, past member of the Board of Trustees of Montgomery Regional Hospital, past Board member of Christiansburg/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Shannon Daniel; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and James Pharis, of Christiansburg, VA; grandson and wife, Nathan and Julie Daniel, of Orland, CA; grandson, Ryan Pharis, of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Shannon Pharis, of Christiansburg, VA; great grandson, Nicholas Daniel, of Orland, CA; daughter-in-law, Cindy Daniel, of Newbern, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2009 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with a visitation an hour before. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Any contributions may be made to Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 176, Chrisitiansburg, VA 24068, St. Paul United Methodist Church, 220 W. Main St., Christiansburg, VA 24073 or charity of choice.
