VELVA REA HARRIS STILWELL EAST, 90, of Christiansburg entered into Heaven May 23, 2019 after a 10 year battle with dementia and Alzhiemer’s. Velva grew up in Willlis VA, the youngest of 8 children.
Velva was preceded by her parents, Claude and Ada Harris; husbands, Harold Stillwell and John East; brothers, Starling, Wakley Pete & Trent; sisters, Nola, Vesta and Hazel. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathy Rogers and husband, Dave of Roanoke; son, Rickie Stilwell of Christiansburg; grandson, Jared Stilwell, Pittsburgh, PA; stepson, John East Jr. and wife, Connie of Dublin.
Velva was retired from Electro-Tech Polyscientific. Velva loved reading, shopping and God. She was a wonderful cook as well. She was a sweet funny, good natured wife, sister and great mother who will be missed dearly by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff at Snyder Nursing Home for the great care and love given to her.
The family will receive friends from on Saturday, May 25 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Richard Kingrea officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
