SALE, VERA BISHOP DULANEY, 82, of Radford, VA, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Sale was born on June 18, 1928 in the Broad Shoals community of Floyd County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Clayton and Clara Reed Bishop.
Mrs. Sale attended Alum Ridge School and graduated from Floyd County High School.
She began working at the age of eighteen and held jobs at clothing factories in Floyd and Montgomery Counties. She retired from Montgomery County Schools where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Christiansburg High School and Bethel Elementary School for 29 years.
Mrs. Sale was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Radford where she kept the membership book and sang in the choir.
She was an excellent seamstress and loved gardening and books. She was also known for her love of cats. She loved to travel and had visited all 50 states as well as Scotland, England, the Netherlands, Canada and Jamaica.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Earnest Bishop and James Bishop. Her first husband, Leslie B. Dulaney, also preceded Mrs. Sale in death.
Mrs. Sale is survived by her husband of 46 years, Frank D. Sale of Radford, to whom she was a devoted caregiver for the past 7 years; a son, Dean Dulaney of Radford; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Warren Murphy of Orlando, FL; step-son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Sale of Radford, VA; step-daughter and son-in-law, June and Jimmy Walker of Christiansburg, VA. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Virginia Bishop, of Bluefield, WV; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Nancy Bishop of Chattanooga, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Judy Sale and Pete and Connie Sale of Radford; 7 grandchildren, Alison Murphy Wickersham and Richard, Brian Sale and Alison, Angie Sale Meier and Craig, Amanda Sale Greene and Jason, Matthew Sale and Michelle, Kelly Walker and Jamie Walker; 10 great grandchildren (2 great grandbabies to be); many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. Sale was blessed to have found love twice in her life – Leslie, her first love and Frank her last love.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Sale’s caregivers, Liz, Donna, Jeanie, Nista, and Beth for all their love and care.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 21, 2011, from 5-8 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2011, at 11 am at Bethel United Methodist Church, Radford, with the Pastor Bobby Lorton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
