Victoria “Vickie” B. Sutton, 75, of Christiansburg, was born October 31, 1943. On Sunday, July 21, 2019, surrounded by her family, Vickie departed this world to rejoin her Heavenly Father. Awaiting Vickie, with open loving arms, were those who preceded her in death, her father, Hastwell Mabry, her mother, Julia Mabry, two beloved cousins, more like brothers, HH “Johnny” Crowder and Tolley Hurst, a treasured friend, more akin to a sister, Donna Sue Farley, and other cherished relatives.
Vickie is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Julia Crawford and husband Charles Shannon, of Christiansburg, Renita Howard, of Dublin, her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Chinault and wife Tammy, of Pulaski, and Vickie’s numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Vickie was a memorable soul; a profound mixture of love, determination, insight, stories, and of course, in her usual fashion, stubbornness. She had a great love for reading and baking, and it was rare to see her without a Dr. Pepper, a smile, and ready to share a laugh with those around her. In her wake, although our hearts are broken, Vickie has gifted her family with a lifetime of precious memories.
Per her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Vickie wished to be cremated and continue an Earthly journey through the spreading of her ashes in either a field of wildflowers or in the waves of the ocean.
Our mother and grandmother was a special lady, and we have been blessed to witness a part of her journey and while she will be deeply missed, we, as a family, are honored to carry out her final wishes. As a last wish, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a worthy animal rescue or charity, as Vickie was a lover of animals, or, with tremendous gratitude, to Horne Funeral Home, in Christiansburg, to help Vickie’s family cover her final expenses.
