Violet Irene Osborn Beazell passed away on January 16, 2013. She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1916. She lived most of her adult life in Fort Myers, Florida. For the past 11 years she has resided in the New River Valley. For the past 9 years she was a resident at Continuous Care in Christiansburg, where she was loved and nurtured by the staff and family. Thank you Kathy Beasley, Catlyn, Christi Wilhelm, Cindy Akers and Cathy Walker.
Mother was a woman of little self doubt, maybe, no self doubt. Those of us who knew her and loved her knew her position on most issues and it did not matter if we agreed with her. She was a powerful force in all of our lives. During World War II she was a Civilian Pilot Trainer and owned her own airplane during World War II. She owned and operated more than one trucking business and ran them well. If I had to characterize my growing up years I would say that our lives sounded much like the book, "The Help", except that my mother was the one insisting that our cleaning lady eat lunch at the table with us, and mother, much to poor Lily May's angst, insisted that she participate in lunch time chatter. Mother taught us the value of all humanity and our obligation to help those that were less fortunate than we were. She was a living example of this in her every day life. Most of her workers were illiterate black men and my mother was often their doctor, their lawyer and their confessor. I think both my brother and I were awed by her head on approach to life and her ability to never doubt her path.
My brother, Thornton Osborn Beazell, and my step-father, Russell F. Beazell, will be there to greet her when she arrives at her destination. Left to mourn her passing are myself, BJ Bauermeister and my husband, Wayne E. Pennell, my sister, Barbara Bright Beazell and my sister-in-law, Doris Forsythe Beazell. Her beloved grandchildren, Ginger, Robyn, Glenn, Charlie, Katie, Russell, Marty and Jason and many beloved, great grandchildren. As we say to each other LUV-U-4-Ever Mama and peace be with you.
