Hess, Virgil J., 74, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at his home.

Born in Raven, VA to the late Elbert and Margaret Newberry Hess, Mr. Hess was preceded in death by a brother, Graham Hess, of Raven, VA, and a sister, Altic. H. Compton, of Mt. Gilead, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Mendel L. Hess, of Christiansburg, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jerry McGlothlin, of Richlands, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Missy Linkous, of Christiansburg, VA; granddaughter, Michaela D. Linkous, of Christiansburg, VA; grandson, MJ Linkous, of Christiansburg, VA; grandsons and their spouses, Timothy and Kim McGlothlin, of Raven, VA; Terry and Christy McGlothlin, of Jewel Ridge, VA; great grandchildren, Jacob and Whitney McGlothlin, of Jewel Ridge, VA; Anna and Emily McGlothlin, of Jewel Ridge,VA; brother and sister-in-law, Garland and Marie Hess, of Newport News, VA; Elsie H. Vance, of Portsmouth, VA; his dog, Bootie; brother-in-law, Tommy Hilton, of Christiansburg, VA; two special nephews, Jon and Joe Hilton, of Christiansburg, VA; friends, Rondall and Sue Newberry, of Doran, VA; Minnie and Leroy Early, of Pulaski, VA; Rev. Jerry and Freda Buckner, of Christiansburg, VA.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 16, 2007 at Horne Funeral Service from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Buckner and Rev. Jube Burk officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, VA. . The family would like to send thanks to Dr. Goldschmidt and staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Center and the Carilion Hospices Center and Nurse, Venus Bigham. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018 or American Heart Association, 200 Evans St., Christiansburg, VA 24073.
