Walter Scott Weaver, 93, of Christiansburg passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017. Scott was a proud World War II United States Army veteran. Mr. Weaver proudly served his community with many civic contributions, among them are as a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, member of the Lion's Club of Christiansburg with 65 years of perfect attendance, quartermaster of the Leonard E. McCoy VFW post 5311, member of the American Legion, life member of the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, member of Christiansburg Town Council for 35 years, chairman of the NRV Agency on Aging as well as being on its developmental team, founding member of Warm Hearth Village, and treasurer of the NRV Planning Commission along with many other committees and contributions to his community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Conner Weaver; parents, Robert and Dora Weaver; three brothers and a sister. Scott is survived by his daughter, the Honorable Cynthia G. Weaver, of Florence, Ala.; nephew, Dr. W. Scott Weaver and wife, Ann of Roanoke, Va.; niece, Sue Thacker and husband, Bob of Riner, Va.; special friend, Mark Grossclose; and other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Warm Hearth at Home and Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care of Scott over the past few years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Song and Rev. Neal Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Scott's name may be sent to Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Good Samaritan Hospice or the children's music ministry at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
