Wayne Elkins Booth, 77, of Christiansburg passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 18, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry G. and Daisy Dimple Booth; and granddaughter, Casey Cure Booth.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Claire Thurman Booth; children, Mike Booth and wife Candy, Carrie Bradshaw and husband David; grandchildren, Rachel Bradshaw York and husband Jared, Andrew Bradshaw, Samantha Booth, and Sydney Booth; brother, David Knox Booth and wife Judie; brother-in-law, Roger Thurman and wife Dixie; as well as other extended family and friends.
Wayne spent most of his career as an educator in the Montgomery County and Wythe County school systems. He had a compassionate heart for all people, especially his students, always ready to give them a second chance with a listening ear and offering sound advice. He served several terms on Christiansburg Town Council. He was an active member of Cambria Baptist Church, serving as Deacon, choir member, and Sunday School teacher and enjoyed volunteering as the area coordinator for Operation Christmas Child. Wayne was an avid gardener and West Virginia Mountaineer fan. He was the best husband, dad, and granddad and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 21, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Cambria Baptist Church, with Rev. Keith Crowgey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
