Weida Darlene Oliver
Born January, 27, 1955 and Died March 12, 2025.
Darlene Oliver, age 70, of Elliston, Virginia, was a smart individual and a bookworm. She also loved to play board games. She loved to travel and among her travel destinations she went to Alaska and overseas. Darlene never married, but she enjoyed the company of her family and was especially close to her Aunt Edna Worrell, and cousins Linda Fritter, Tina Treadway, and Hannah Wells.
Darlene graduated from Shawsville High School and Radford University. While at Radford University Darlene worked at Montgomery County Social Services. She moved to Northern Virginia in 1975 after graduating from Radford University and worked her dream job in the White House. While in Northern Virginia she made several lifelong friends including Dorothy Smith and Margaret . She also kept in touch with her high school best friend, Joyce Jewell. After 20 years, she moved back home to Elliston, Virginia and worked at Shenandoah Life in Roanoke.
Darlene was interested in her family genealogy and did extensive research on where the family originated from. Toward the end of her life, she enjoyed TV game shows and talking to friends and family. Darlene’s friend Tracy Shively stated that she loved his little dog foxy, looking for new recipes for him to cook, and Christmas and seeing decorations. She was an avid bible reader and watched many bible shows and she loved hearing Tracy play the piano and sing.
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy “Dot” Mae Wells Oliver, father, Lacy “Shorty” Burle Oliver, brother, Barry Wayne Oliver, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by nephew and his wife Andrew and Megan Oliver and sister-in-law, Janet Oliver.
There will be no services per Darlene’s request, but friends who wish to say condolences to the family may do so at the residence.
