Wenona Surratt Gardner

Wenona Surratt Gardner, 92, of Christiansburg, died January 8, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Willy A. Surratt and Amanda Carolina Walker Surratt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Gardner; son, Wayne Gardner; two brothers; as well as two sisters.

She was a member of Edgemont Christian Church for over 60 years, where she served with pride as a Sunday School teacher, deaconess and Elder. She was a member of RSVP for over 25 years, where she volunteered tirelessly.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Gayle Gardner of Radford, Judy Gardner Loveday (Wayne) of Riner; son, David Gardner (Judy) of Rougemont, NC; brothers, Jim Surratt of Cincinnati OH, Don Surratt (Linda) of Christiansburg; sisters, Irene Roope and Maxine Shields of Welch, WV; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

She will be missed greatly and fondly remembered as “Mimi” to family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Peter Anderson and Rev. Bobby Sutphin officiating. Interment will follow in Gardner Family Cemetery in Dugspur, VA.
