Wilbur Rodgers Leighton, 80, of Christiansburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, after a three-year courageous battle with cancer and is now in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertie Leighton. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lena P Leighton; four children, Connie Cox and her husband Michael, Sherry Schoolfield, Larry Vest, and Jerry Vest; five grandchildren, Brandy Self (Quinton), Tra Hawley (Mandi), Charles Schoolfield (Janessa), Travis Vest (Jennifer), and Cheyenne Vest; and seven great-grandchildren, Dakota, Shelby, Conner, Quinton (‘Q’), Cassidy, Carter, and Grayson. He is also survived by two brothers, Howard and Bob Leighton; one sister, Helen Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilbur was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was retired from the Town of Christiansburg where he served as the Assistant Town Engineer.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 14, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Monroe Hedrick, Pastor Michael Cox, and Pastor John Altizer officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
