William ‘Bill or Doc’ Wilson Bryson, 93, of Blacksburg, left this world to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, November 12, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Geneva; his parents, Simeon and Jasey Bryson; and his sister, Wilda Johnson.
Bill leaves behind his sister, Iris and her husband William Wiltshire of Richmond, VA; two sisters-in-laws, Treva Cannaday of Floyd, VA and Gloria Hollandsworth of Roanoke, VA; his two godchildren, Brian Cody and Jason Cody both of Poolesville, MD. He also leaves behind many devoted nieces, nephews and friends.
Bill was a decorated veteran of World War II where he served as a medical technician with the 129th General Hospital, and as a military police (MP) while stationed in England. After the War he attended VA Tech (VPI). He worked as a Roofer his entire career and was a member of Local 185. Bill loved to travel in the United States and enjoyed bowling. His most favorite past time was eating – especially desserts.
Bill was a devoted Hokie fan and devoted many years to directing parking and traffic for the home games, as well as attending all home and Bowl games. He was also very active in the VFW Post 5311 where he served as Chaplin for many years, and was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge #20 in Blacksburg, and also a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a life member of North Fork Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He loved life and could always be counted on for his wit and wisdom.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 1-3:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at North Fork Baptist Church, 905 Lusters Gate Rd, Blacksburg, with Pastor Rusty Mullins and Pastor Fred Bruger officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
