William (Bill) Lewis DeHart, 87, of Christiansburg, Virginia, previously of Cross Plains, Texas departed this life for his heavenly home, Friday afternoon, November 13, 2015.
Bill was the oldest of 10 brothers and sisters. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Charles “Charlie” Dehart; mother, Nanny Spangler Dehart; Brothers, Edward DeHart and Jerry DeHart; sisters, Helen White, Sara Clevland and Eva Walker; daughter, Cherry Jaquier; and son, William “Little Bill” DeHart.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 52 years, Carmelleta Barnes DeHart; brothers, David (Algie) DeHart of Sims, NC, Edgar (Carolyn) DeHart of Independence, VA, George (Polly) DeHart of Roanoke, VA, Randy (Brenda) DeHart of Christiansburg, VA; sister, Jean (Bobby) Perdue, Blacksburg, VA; sons, Jerry (Robin) Childs, Riner, VA, Ronny (Cheryl) Childs, LaCrosse, WI; daughter, Brenda (Winston) Lowry, San Angelo, TX; grandchildren, Jessica Marinoble , VA, Jennifer (Terry) Rousey, CO., Justin (Chris) Childs, WI., Rob (Elisha) Leathers, Misty Lowry, Tabatha Lowry, and Lori Lowry all of TX.; numerous great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Bill served in the Navy during WWII as a young man, later moved to San Angelo, Texas to be a truck driver and then to serve as a firefighter for 13 years. He moved back to Virginia in 1963. He was the founder of DeHart Tile. He worked hard until his retirement. Bill and his wife Carmelleta moved back to Texas to become ranchers.
He loved his family, god, golf, V.T. and Dallas Cowboys football; and the cowboy way of life. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
The Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at 1 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Dennis Curd officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
