William Denny

April 6, 1921 — March 4, 2012

William Amberse Denny, 90, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2012.

Bill, as he was known by, was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corp from 1940 to 1946. He was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He served his country with the 1st Marine Division throughout the Pacific during World War II, participating in the battles of Pearl Harbor, Midway, Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Solomon Island, and Okinawa. Bill worked for Appalachian Power Company from 1948 until his retirement in the mid 1980’s.

He loved the outdoors and spent many memorable times fishing and hunting with family members. He took great pride in his vegetable gardens and lawn. But the love of his life was his Lord Jesus Christ; his wife of 67 years, Christine; and all of his family, especially his grandson, Cameron.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Christine C. Denny; his father and mother, James A. and Etelka A. Denny; 2 sisters, Mae Darnell and Lillian Hartsog; and 1 brother, James L. Denny.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Roger W. Denny & wife, Karen; grandson, Cameron W. Denny; brothers, Darius Denny, Venard Denny & wife, Betty; sisters, Merle Darby and Vivian Blevins & husband, Falous.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 1-2 pm at Horne Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 2 pm in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tom Harvey will officiate and interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
