William Everett (Bill) Mills, 79, of Pilot, departed this life and stepped through the gates of Heaven on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Born on December 3, 1935, to the late Thomas and Dania Mills, he was also preceded in death by his brother, James; and sisters, Audrey and Lucille.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Freeda; two sons, Jeffrey and Timothy; and daughter, Amy. Also surviving are his brothers, Hobert and Freddie Mills; sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine Dudley, Willie Mae and Luther Spencer, Trudie and J.D. Worrell, Shirley and Butch Yates; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas (C.T.) and Grace Wood, Sue Wood, Michael and Sharon Wood; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill loved life, loved people, and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a long-time active member of Abundant Life Fellowship, and loved his church family and many friends very much. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, as a Sergeant in the 86th Chemical Co. at Fort Bragg, NC, and was an enthusiastic fan of Gospel and Bluegrass music. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 12, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Earl Hanks, Rev. Carl Early, and Rev. Larry Meadors officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
