William R. 'Bill' Smith

William R. ‘Bill’ Smith, 80, of Elliston, passed away on August 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Clarence and Betty Lee Wolfe Smith; son, Daniel; daughter, Phyllis Lynn Hurt; siblings, Betty Jean and Taylor Clay.

Bill is survived by his wife, Esther Jean Smith; children, Brenda, Martin, David, Sara, and Kevin; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Smith, Donna and Joe Hall, and Barbara and John Scyphers; as well as church members and many friends.

Bill attended Bluefield College, Moody Bible Institute and Shenandoah Bible College. He was a minister for 39 ½ years with Midway Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in North Fork Cemetery.
