William Henry (Billy) Underwood, Jr., age 82, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his residence in Floyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Underwood and Ida Marie Lewis Underwood; brother, Kenneth Underwood; and one son.
He was a veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean War Conflict.
He is survived by his loving companion of thirty-three years, Dorothy Smith; her sons & their spouses, Robert (Elizabeth) Smith, Randy (Denise) Smith, and Michael (Kathy) Smith; and grandchildren, Brittany, Megan, Brandon, Cody and Brandon. Those left to remember their dear brother are sisters & spouse, Ann U. Palmer of Riner, Darlene (Carl) Jones of Christiansburg, and Judy Underwood of Christiansburg; brothers & their spouses, Ray (Jo) Underwood of Florida, Melvin (Bertha) Underwood of Alaska, Freddie (Edith) Underwood of North Carolina, Dana (Carol Sue) Underwood of Roanoke, Roger (Pat) Underwood of Dublin; sister-in-law, Delena Underwood of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to friend Steve Angle who provided transportation for Billy’s numerous trips to the VA Hospital for care.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Ministries, Union Valley Road, Riner, with the Rev. Buford Linkous officiating. Burial will be at a later date in North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local volunteer rescue squad or fire department.
