Ted Janney

Wilton Harvey “Ted” Janney Jr., born June 12, 1948 of Christiansburg VA, passed away on February 26, 2025 at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Janney and Madeline Boyd Janney, and stepfather, Scottie Scott.

Ted was married to the love of his life, Barbara Lyons Janney, for 52 years. Together they had two children, Kristin McLaughlin (Shane) and Jessica Cauley. The pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren, Tanyon Cauley and Wesson and Teagan McLaughlin.

He is also survived by his brother, Larry Janney (Debbie & family) and stepbrother, Jim Scott (Pat).

Ted attended Floyd County High School and Virginia Tech. He worked for 36 years at RADISA . In 1979-80, he and Barbara moved to Riner, where he built their home. After retiring he went on to work at H&R Block for 10 years. He also served as an elder for many years at the Christiansburg Church of Christ.

His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a great sense of humor and a drive to live each day to the fullest. Despite the pain, he always strove to attend church, walk outside, and spend time with his family.

The family will receive friends at the Horne Funeral Home and chapel on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Visitation will be from 10-11am, a service from 11-12pm, followed by a burial service at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Christiansburg Church of Christ, which he dearly loved, or to a local Rescue Squad.
